“Original, sparkling bright, and layered with feeling.”—Sally Thorne, author of The Hating Game

A romance writer who no longer believes in love and a literary writer stuck in a rut engage in a summer-long challenge that may just upend everything they believe about happily ever afters.

Augustus Everett is an acclaimed author of literary fiction. January Andrews writes bestselling romance. When she pens a happily ever after, he kills off his entire cast.

They’re polar opposites.

In fact, the only thing they have in common is that for the next three months, they're living in neighboring beach houses, broke, and bogged down with writer's block.

Until, one hazy evening, one thing leads to another and they strike a deal designed to force them out of their creative ruts: Augustus will spend the summer writing something happy, and January will pen the next Great American Novel. She’ll take him on field trips worthy of any rom-com montage, and he’ll take her to interview surviving members of a backwoods death cult (obviously). Everyone will finish a book and no one will fall in love. Really.

This book has entered into my top 3 favorite books of all time!! The amount of times I laughed, swooned, and became emotional is too many to count! I read this entire book in under 24 hours and I only want to continue reading more of this author’s work! HIGHLY recommend!!

Not my usual genre; but it’s been one of those rare years that HEA feels very nurturing and important. Now off to read her new book.

Beach Read is the first book i’ve read in two years, I bought it not knowing at all what it was about or if I would even finish it but I read the entire thing in under 16 hours (including my four hour break to sleep). This book is an easy read yet incredibly fulfilling. If I can find another book that made me feel the way Beach Read did I will be shocked.
  • Enjoyable!

My book club buddies recommended this for me to read while I was on vacation. I was literally on the beach when I read most of this. I liked that this wasn’t the typical romance novel. I liked the way the relationships developed. The descriptions of the local culture put me right there. I enjoyed the story about the writing process. This was really fun.
  • A Welcome Surpris

When I first read the summary, I wasn’t so sure about this book, but when I started, I couldn’t stop. Not only did I fall in love with the characters, but the story itself. It’s unlike any other romance book I’ve read in the best of ways. There’s so much depth and a beating, aching heart amongst the laughter. Instead of rose-colored glasses, it offers hope amongst believable stories. Loved every second.
